Founded in 2023, HJSD is working to make changes to the construction and built environment industry, and change the way designers, builders, and consumers see the world around us. Through our Healthy Materials, Healthy Home program, clients in Lexington, KY have access to a sustainability program that creates a healthier home and has a positive planetary impact. Our first project of this kind, we also work in other spaces- designing theatrical sets, installations, outdoor spaces, with a conscious approach to mother nature and the materials we use.
We believe in creating experiences for all people, and aim to make our services sustainable, affordable and accessible.
We care about education in natural materials and minimizing our collective effect on the planet, while creating spaces and experiences that invite people in, and in doing so, innovate a brighter future.
1. Build a network of partnerships + collaborations with business, individuals, + NGOs that are interested in sustainability, but need help expanding their knowledge and achieving their goals.
2. Work with artists to design creative, thought-provoking elements that complement new or existing bodies of work.
3. Use sustainable and regenerative design methods of creating + building in an accessible way.
4. Educate through our learning program for clients, doing hands-on work for and with the community + open source sharing our knowledge so others can benefit with their own projects.
"We seek to create beautiful spaces that invite people in, to build worlds for others to tell their stories, to create a place for endless imaginings."
Functional Inspiration
Our creations come from problem solving, always innovating to achieve multiple purposes and functions in our designs.
Sustainable Harmony
We create for people to connect with nature and one another, to uplift + inspire, to experience another way of existence, for a moment in time. The principles of permaculture design help us achieve this, through collaboration with the earth and with our communities.
